An Opportunity To Share
The journey of waking up in our lives is a shared experience, even if our language for the process may be quite different for each of us. For me, I sometimes feel that I am traversing the ups and downs of life with this intention to wake up as I try to do my best as a human being and offer what I can. Other times my practice has a sense of diving deep into my own mind to disentangle the confusion that can reign in relating to a complex world where it is hard to find my place. At other times the journey is a joyous appreciation of life and all its potential.
Throughout my life, I have turned to meditation over and over again, to help me see more clearly, to find more balance and to be more at home in myself. It has been a process of learning meditation in a simplified environment of sitting in formal practice, and then learning how to continue that practice in the midst of relationships, work and the intersection with all that we go through simply in being born a human being.
Within this whole process, dialogue with others has played an essential role in helping the teachings come alive. If I hadn’t had teachers who reflected back to me things I was unable to see or help to clarify my experience or who gave me the opportunity to articulate my experiences, I would have been floundering a lot longer.
Rather than being simply black or white, dialogue at its best can be a creative process in which we are able to give language to our inner worlds. At times I have been surprised at hearing what has come out of my mouth in conversation. I have seen the value of wisdom multiply through being able to share it. Sharing with friends who can understand along the way also helps us stay inspired and have our understanding reflected back to us. It also helps us to learn to listen without needing to fix or change others, and learn to hold the space for companions on the journey.
This first blog is an invitation to share experience, ask questions and be a part of this website, dedicated to discovering ways to make friends with ourselves and uncovering our innate well being. Rather than being simply about “me”, sharing your questions, comments and sharing will help bring this site to life and ripple out into the world. I look forward to reading your contributions!
